Research activities of the Centre in large involve student participation at various motivational grant programmes as well as organisation of informal seminars and workshops.  Students are encouraged to participate at international conferences and to get involved in solving research grants. Students and researchers of the Centre were involved in the following activities in 2018:

Participation and co-organizing (SOC, LOC) the workshop „10 years of the Czech Republic in ESA“, held in Prague, Czech Republic in November 2018

Our Contributions

Talks

Kateřina Goluchová: Power density spectra of modes of orbital motion in strongly curved space-time: obtaining the observable signal

Participation at the AXRO 2018 - 11th International Workshop on Astronomical X–Ray Optics, held in Prague, Czech Republic in November 2018

The overall mission of this international workshop was to present and discuss recent and future technologies for X-ray astronomy missions. The workshop held sessions dedicated to recent and future space projects, such as SMILE, THESEUS, ATHENA, and eXTP, and there were discussions on astrophysical aspects of X-ray telescopes/satellites with several review talks given by world leading scientists as well as relevant Czech researchers.

Talks

Gabriel Török: On mass of active galactic nucleus XMMUJ134736.6+173403

Participation and organizing (SOC, LOC) RAGtime 20 meeting, held in Opava, Czech Republic in October 2018

The scientific focus of the workshop was traditionally devoted to problems of relativistic physics of black holes and neutron or quark stars. Large attention was given to confronting theoretical models with up-to-date observations available through both electromagnetic and gravitational wave window to the Universe. Explored were also current issues in accretion theory, problems related to cosmology, mathematical aspects of the theory of relativity, and alternative theories of gravity. Special attention was given to national and international collaboration regarding the present and future cosmic X-ray missions.

Talks

Gabriel Török: On the mass of active galactic nucleus black hole XMMUJ134736.6+173403

Pavel Bakala: Thin accretion disc in strong gravity influenced by interaction with radiation field

Debora Lančová: GRRMHD simulation of thin accretion disc stabilized by magnetic field

Jaroslav Vrba: Trapped null-geodesics in slowly rotating space-times

Participation at the IWARA2018 - 8th International Workshop on Astronomy and Relativistic Astrophysics, held in Ollantaytambo, Peru in September 2018

The IWARA 2018 event was the eighth in a series of meetings gathering scientists working on astroparticle physics, cosmology, gravitation, nuclear physics, and related fields. The workshop attempted to cover recent developments in a wide range of areas, e.g., general relativity, cosmology, astrophysics and physics of compact objects (black holes, neutron stars, pulsars, white dwarfs), quantum gravity, string theory. Included were also discussions on laboratories, observatories, telescopes and other experimental and observational facilities.

Participation at the XXXth General Assembly of the International Astronomical Union, held in Vienna, Austria in August 2018

The XXXth General Assembly of the International Astronomical Union took place in Vienna, Austria.  As is usual for the IAU General Assembly there were great many different meetings devoted to a wide range of fields across astronomy and astrophysics.  The researchers of our Centre have presented their results within the High Energy Phenomena and Fundamental Physics division meeting.

Participation at the 15th INTEGRAL/BART Workshop (IBWS), held in Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic in April 2018

IBWS 2018 was 15th in the series of successful workshops dedicated to high energy astrophysics and supporting ground-based experiments. The scientific topics discussed at this event were related to theoretical and observational aspects of high energy and very high energy astrophysics, both galactic and extragalactic, gamma-ray bursts, various satellite projects and ground-based support for satellite projects (robotic telescopes, Čerenkov telescopes, data analyses), and furthermore also real-time image processing in astronomy.
